In the morning, preferably around 08.30/09.00 a.m., our private driver will be glad to accompany you with a comfortable Mercedes Benz vehicle to the discovery of the Marble Quarries of Carrara.
Once arrived at your destination you will meet another driver/guide with a Land Rover Defender (8 seats) reserved only for you.
He will make you live a different and fascinating reality made of hard work and genius, ancient sweat and modern technology. The world of marble is not only the extraction or processing of a stone, but the history of a territory and its population. Carrara marble is famous all over the world, also because it is used by the most famous sculptors such as Michelangelo, Donatello and many others. Social and historical information about the territory will be provided along the way.
Walking along private roads, winding and very steep, you will reach in a few minutes the highest quarries, up to over 1000 meters above sea level. During the journey you will make several stops inside several active quarries of different types (open-air, pit-type, etc..) for technical explanations. You will be able to see the various stages of excavation and to take highly panoramic photographs.
The panoramic visit of the 2nd valley (Miseglia) with a stop in a further quarry for a glass of iced Prosecco and/or a refreshing drink, before visiting a spectacular underground quarry, where even the most disenchanted visitors cannot mask the emotion they feel in a decidedly lunar environment. Return to the starting point, in the locality of Calaggio, for a plenty cold lunch based on Lardo di Colonnata PGI, plates of local cold cuts and cheeses, vegetable pies, tomatoes, water and wine.
After the lunch break and on the way back you can visit with your private driver the Gulf of Tigullio through the most picturesque villages of the eastern coast including Santa Margherita Ligure and the famous "piazzetta" of Portofino, with its prestigious boutiques and exclusive restaurants, which has managed to maintain over time its ancient flavor of fishing village with its naturally protected bay. Once the visit of Portofino is over at about 05.00 p.m. you will definitely return to your starting point.
